shop with a fake Jeff McLane storylines, right? That's the biggest fake story ever they had. So the rich they had such little interest in Dallas Goddard that they brought an old retired balls not on the team anymore because they were totally happy with position. Way are recapping the NFL draft with super fan Rich Bobby on justice for all Coming up Next, You are listening to justice for all. A podcast about law, sports, entertainment and more. We're coming to you live on April the 24th 2020 it is. It's a Friday. Uh, it's day that 50 year cell with corn. Thank
spk_0: 1:39
you. Really. You really do lose track of time?
spk_2: 1:42
I'm just happy when I can remember what day of the week it is. So I do know it's Friday. I do know we're recording this Friday afternoon. The NFL draft was last night, so of course we had to bring in our special guest, our good friend Richard T. Bobby The third. Welcome. Rich to the podcast.
spk_1: 2:00
Welcome. Right? I've been I've been waiting for this invitation, and it just it made my day. When I got it earlier,
spk_2: 2:10
we were very happy to have you. Rich is a good friend of ours. We all worked in the district Attorney's office in Philadelphia years and years ago, Uh, riches now in private practice at a very prestigious law firm that I can't remember the name of because it's got too many. Native Josh has
spk_0: 2:27
Greenfield, Pierce fun and Flores there. Bobby in there, too. But they're wonderful firm. A lot of good attorneys located in Philadelphia,
spk_1: 2:37
Greenblatt Piers Fund and Flores.
spk_0: 2:39
What did I say we were using? Do we keep him in How well, anyway, a lawyer,
spk_2: 2:45
quietly, they do compete against us. We're not gonna be oh, things
spk_0: 2:52
that sponsored content right down rich. All right, let's keep moving. Let's move.
spk_2: 2:57
So anyways, um, riches riches. Probably the most optimistic Eagles fan I know Outside of Dave Speed. Aero, we all know is also insane. So I thought a person could we have on the podcast to come on and attempt to explain what exactly happened with your Philadelphia Eagles at the draft? Because this is like this is like the poor people have to clean up after Trump, right? They have to go on and be like, No, no, no, he didn't mean drink bleach, he said. Talk to a doctor if you know everybody I saw just recently, the draft last night drew 15 million viewers. 15 million people watched the draft last night because it is the only sporting event going on, and
spk_0: 3:49
I wonder if any of these 15 million people know about our podcasts I'd love to get. At least the practices
spk_2: 3:54
will soon know they'll soon we're spreading the work. So for those of you listening outside of the Philadelphia area, um, you know, Philadelphia is a big time sports fan, and the Eagles literally rule the roost. 365 days a year, seven days a week, and the number one need for the Eagles was a wide receiver, so the Eagles were picking at 21 yesterday, and there are I mean, I think we'd all agree. I think there were probably four top receivers going into this draft. Is that right?
spk_1: 4:30
Uh, yeah, I think. Well, I would say that there was three,
spk_2: 4:35
so you wouldn't put Jefferson and you would put Jefferson is below the other three guys.
spk_1: 4:39
No, I think there's, ah, you know, from from the things that I read, there seemed to be a consensus that there was a drop off between the big three and then Jefferson was the for the second year.
spk_2: 4:56
Okay, well, anyways, so just a recap. So eagles were picking a 21. The first receiver off the board was at 12 to the Las Vegas Raiders. Henry rugs, who I think was probably the third best receiver. But he's fast, and they love that in Vegas. So if rugs goes a 12 then, uh, I love
spk_0: 5:24
how that, like, the Raiders for the past 40 years, like no matter what, are always going to take a guy that runs like a 4 to 40 like no matter what, you have to take him like they've had different coaches. They've had different gm's. They got Jon Gruden's a pretty smart guy does the same thing. Like maybe this guy.
spk_2: 5:43
Clout. Remember, the Al Davis is Son still owns the team. That is true. So then Jerry Judy goes at 15 receiver at Alabama. Very good receiver, Um, and so that sets the drama right, because at 16 the Atlanta Falcons air picking and have no interest in taking a receiver because they've got Julio Jones receiver and and the other guy was It was the other guy they had from Alabama last year. I can't remember his name.
spk_0: 6:13
No, I had him on my fantasy team. Second. I did three touchdown passes in the 1st 2 games in, and he's really fast. It'll come to us.
spk_2: 6:21
So everybody, everybody knows that when I know not going to take a receiver. And then the Dallas Cowboys behaving rival off the Philadelphia Eagles are picking at 17 and there's all types of rumors Jerry Jones is in a bank vault or a yacht or something like that. He may or may not be drunk, Um, and they're sitting there and the Eagles have to wait till 21. So what happens, of course, is Atlanta takes a cornerback. And that means that CD lamb, probably the best receiver in the draft, falls into the Cowboys lap. And Jerry Jones doesn't screw up. Takes the best receiver, right? But now a curious thing happens, because now we get to the Eagles pick and and right through to the Eagles pick.
spk_1: 7:10
They, uh, picked a speedy wide receiver. So Well, let me be big through this a little bit from the oven. Eagles, man. Uh, it first of all, I was thrilled that they were going ahead with the draft because it with everything going on, I was just like, this is gonna be great. It's gonna be, you know, something that we focus on and talk about it and had it chews with and whatnot. So I was consuming a lot of content when leading up to yesterday, and I went into it thinking, And if CD Lamb was still available around 12 that the Eagles would do something with the Jets and run up and get him. And you know, though it was working out like everything was all in our way. And the jets her sit in there and I'm like, All right, let's I'm waiting for it to turn to trade. Right? The Jets go ahead. The linemen, which would smart if, you know, they could trade out of that. They still good offensive linemen. But that at that point, like every single team that came up, I was like, They gotta they got to do it. Like I thought they'd be able to do it with San Francisco. Uh,
spk_2: 8:38
well, center at San Francisco did trade back one spot. So Tampa, they moved up a spot again to draft a lineman for Brady. Right? You know, that means they were willing to deal. Deal? I mean, I assume I don't know what you're hearing, but, you know, there was a report today. I think Sal Pal reported that how he tried to move up, but nobody would take, you know, the bait.
spk_0: 9:03
Yeah, I'm I'm sure he did.
spk_1: 9:06
So it gets it gets down to Atlanta who had absolutely every reason, drink it out of that. All right? Right. I mean, they they only have I think they went into the weekend with only six picks. Right? Isn't that true? Yep. They had they had every reason to trade out. That's right in front of the Cowboys. Then pick is in Atlanta. I I'm like, losing it. You make, you know I'm will usually differ on these things. And but I really like CD lamp. And sure enough, the Falcon to take a J. Terryl. It was ah, cornerback out of Clemson. So you're you're telling me that they kind of traded back, get, uh, and still got in? Terrible. I think they traded back like, six spots. And
spk_2: 10:09
I think outside of the top two quarterbacks who both went in the top 10 it was kind of a significant drop off after that. And there was, I think, Atlanta It's like either didn't get a good enough offer and just were like, Okay, we're gonna draft for need, you know, instead of following our board and, you know, just take a cornerback as we need a quarterback.
spk_0: 10:32
Well, Pierre did. Did the did Dallas go in looking for a receiver? No,
spk_2: 10:37
I think I think the Cowboys from what everything that I was reading and which is makes sense. The Cowboys number one issue was defense right there. Offenses are in. The offense wasn't an issue last year. The offense was really good they already have. They have a superstar wide receiver there. Number two receiver is really good. They've got an all Pro running back and they've got a top five quarterback in the NFC. So offense was a luxury. They were everything said they were. They were focusing on cornerbacks and edge rushers. They really liked. Um c J Henderson out of Florida, who are gonna come in a lot of MOX was going 15 to 20 and was maybe in their range. He ended up going nine to Jacksonville really high. And then the other guy they really liked was the guy that Jacksonville took a 23 edge rusher and l s u uh, Chasse and um And then there was also talk about a safety, and there were they were linked to the guy in the Kenyan at Alabama was the number one safety who didn't even get drafted in the first round yesterday, which I don't know what's going on there, but I think to the careless
spk_1: 11:48
Well, let me ask you this before we get Teoh to regular, uh, what were you thinking? Once Atlanta makes the pick and Dallas is on the clock, you as a Cowboys fan. What were you thinking?
spk_2: 12:04
I took me like a minute to process the fact that CD lamb was available and my initial gut reaction was, Well, wait a minute. You know, we don't really It's kind of a luxury. Shouldn't we take, you know, somebody else? But then I was like, You know, really, the only guy that I really liked was Henderson. I really thought that if Henderson tumbled to 17 they absolutely have a need, a cornerback. But I think I think that Lamb was is the best receiver in the draft. I think he's arguably one of the five best guys in the draft, and it's one of those things were. If it falls in your lap, you have to take
spk_0: 12:42
that thing. Ah, Jerry Jones, I think does well. He doesn't screw around with the likes offensive players. He drafted Elliott very high. What number four overall? Yeah, he didn't even blink when he likes guys. And he just, like,
spk_2: 12:56
traded up for as he trained up for Dez Bryant that one years,
spk_0: 12:59
Yeah. I mean, he just goes for me, M and maybe has had more success on the offensive side than defense, I don't know, but he has no problem reaching for a star in the first round on the offensive side, inaudible.
spk_2: 13:11
I think the nut punch is this. I mean, if I have an Eagles fan, I'm annoyed that CD Lamb fell to me, But I could understand it if it's like, Hey, listen, how we may be tried. Maybe nobody wanted make trade or they wanted too much and it sucks. The Dallas got lamb, but whatever Right now, what I don't understand is that you get to you, get to the Eagles, pick a 21 and Justin Jefferson is sitting out there. Just in. Jefferson is a stud, by the way, he said. Although he 111 catches this year in college, he had 100 and 11 catches in the S E. C. Wright is a phenomenal receiver, right? He's playing against top competition every week. He's the number four receiver in this draft easily, and he sat there for the Eagles and they don't take him. They don't take him and you could see like Minnesota couldn't rush up to the podium, the virtual podium fast enough to take, and instead how he takes this guy from TCU, whose 5 10 he's a five and
spk_0: 14:19
Michael Thomas. Who does he compare to retch here, the inside in front? Who does he use your comparable and in the NFL to this guy, right?
spk_1: 14:27
A lot of the things I'm saying optimistically are comparing him to Santonio Holmes. So
spk_2: 14:34
no hay Santonio Holmes like 61 though with me
spk_1: 14:38
here. Well, here's the thing with the regular. I'm OK with it. I think Justin Jefferson's a better player, but I think the Eagles have so many guys that they want to do the same things that Justin Jefferson does like there's only so many guys that could be in the middle of the field. Jefferson's not a superfast guy by any stretch of the imagination. Bigger is that he's a burner. They needed a burner. Um, they already have Ghadir and Earth's. By the way, the CD Lamb pick reminded me a lot of when the Eagles went up and got God or rate in front of the Cowboys back in 18. And I think
spk_0: 15:20
we'll pay back
spk_1: 15:20
that. I think for the little bit of that, going through very good,
spk_2: 15:24
stop with the fake Jeff McLane storylines here, right? That's the biggest faith story ever. We have more interest in Dallas. God, we didn't. We drafted Connor Williams. We weren't offensive. Linemen were always taking up.
spk_0: 15:38
They had show the rich. They had such little interest in Dallas Goddard that they brought an old retired bum who's not on the team anymore. They brought it back because they were totally happy with the position if
spk_1: 15:52
they had no interest in town. This Qatar, you got a question. A lot of things.
spk_2: 15:56
No David Vincent, David Cowboys and tight ends. Or like the Eagles and linebackers like they just They're terrible with the position. They get lucky once every 10 years, and then they have a guy and they just sticks around for a while. Like that's the Cowboys. The Cowboys have drafted. You know how many tight ends they have drafted in my lifetime? They had more. Tell us, Bennett. They got Rico Gathers, who was a basketball player from like Baylor, and they tried to make him a football player for three.
spk_0: 16:24
Yeah, there's a lot of
spk_2: 16:25
constantly they used another pick. I can't remember the guy's name. They used a second round pick on another guy. I think they get that. They get that position wrong all the time. I'm telling. I think what they try and do now is just cross their fingers and draft guys in the fifth or sixth round and hope somebody becomes a star.
spk_1: 16:43
Yeah. So I think that the regular pick I'm okay. I'm upset that we didn't go up to get Lamb. And I would love to see if there was what the talks were with the Falcons, if any. And what wasn't being willing, Uh, how he wasn't willing to give up to go up there to get him. So that part of it upsets me without knowing all the details. But the pick of regular over Justin, uh, over Jefferson is fine with May.
spk_0: 17:13
I would have liked him because he returns kicks so they don't have a kick returner. Yeah.
spk_2: 17:18
You always want to use your first round pick on special teams.
spk_0: 17:21
Yeah, right here. Look to Sean Jackson. Did that work out just fine. Didn't. Didn't seem to bother him too.
spk_2: 17:26
He wasn't a first round pick either. He was a second round.
spk_0: 17:29
Basically, he wasn't in a gang. If chip Chip Kelly root of this out years later if he
spk_2: 17:37
wasn't in those gangs
spk_0: 17:38
which were clearly visible by all those hand gestures that he made after scoring touchdowns. But But I don't that are the what is governed up tonight. What did they have? Um, remains of again? It's not all the rounds tonight, Just like two more rounds tonight.
spk_2: 17:56
Two rounds adding rounds two and three start at seven.
spk_0: 18:01
What are you, uh is everybody is everybody, like, Are the teams picking basically in the same spots as they were in the first round? Like,
spk_2: 18:08
Yeah, there's because there's a lot of trade, So I'm looking at a year. So the Bengals leadoff, But then the Colts picks second and then the Patriots. Because, of course, the Patriots do what they always do, which is trade out of the first round. So they didn't.
spk_0: 18:24
This dude is, you know, the Patriots are being super active. I've never seen move so many players.
spk_2: 18:30
I think the page I mean, tell me if I'm wrong. The Patriots are tanking this season, right?
spk_0: 18:35
Well, there, certainly moving a lot of pieces. I mean, and I don't mean they must be Pierre at some level because they don't have a quarterback like who's gonna play quarterback for?
spk_2: 18:44
I mean, I guess the raw against the U They could always figure that at some point Cam Newton flies into the rescue, right? But
spk_0: 18:51
that would be fun to watch him Coach Cam Newton. But Cam Newton can't really throw Doble. What's he gonna do at our, like a power? I offense, I guess you could. That would be fun.
spk_2: 19:01
But, I mean, I just you know, they don't really have there just kind of a mess. And no, they haven't. They just seem to be stockpiling picks. And I think they're writing this season off. I honestly think they don't give a shit. So anyways, the Patriots are picking like right. Houston's got an early picking. Their the bears have a couple of pics coming up.
spk_0: 19:25
Where do you think the eagles wretch go second and third round? I'm let me just say this and I want you answer that question. I'm surprised it there picked this first round Onley because they almost never seem to go with this pick that everybody like the need that everybody thinks they have. You know, they get their first pick. And they said they did. For whatever this reason, I always was. I was shocked that he didn't trade the pick at some point for some reason. So now I'm wearing all right. So he got that by receiver. It's gotta be what? It's gonna be like a lineman now, right in office alive.
spk_1: 19:59
Uh, well, it depends on so things that I think, though they'll start thinking about what Kelsey's playing is, right, because they and if if if he's given an indication that this year is gonna be it, then I could see that I could see, uh, the eagles go with an interior offensive lineman. Um, you know, Matt Hennessey from Temple is out there. Um, there's a few other guys.
spk_0: 20:31
Well, let's remember this. I'm, you know, check this. Jason Peters isn't on the team anymore, right?
spk_1: 20:36
Not right now. You
spk_2: 20:37
wait. He's holding out till they're gonna give him, like, three million to come back.
spk_0: 20:42
So what's the plan? I mean, is he a contributor zoonotic? And if he's not a contributor, don't you have a pretty big hole in your offensive line?
spk_1: 20:49
Well, no. The ideas at your number one pick last year, Andre will step in and and be competent. You know, that's I
spk_2: 20:58
think the Eagles need to seriously think about a corner or safety.
spk_1: 21:02
I would, I've seen I've seen some mocks Pierre. Where? Grant help. It drops down to 53. I'd love
spk_2: 21:08
you. Won't get you won't get past the cowboys. Well, I'm telling you right now, help. It's on. The Cowboys were picking two spots out of the Eagles. If Delp it's there, they're gonna take dealt. Yeah, safety is another position the Cowboys perennially screw up and pass on guys they should take. But so maybe Maybe that, because right now, going into the second round, the two best safeties are still there was a guy from Alabama didn't get drafted. The Alabama Safety and Delp it from Ellis. You are both on the boards.
spk_1: 21:41
Yeah, who I saw, I saw Ah, cornerback. Uh, drop into them in the second round. Where you guys picking like 51 right?
spk_2: 21:52
Yeah. We're pretty much in the middle. Word 51. The Eagles are at 53.
spk_0: 21:57
Where the cowboys gonna go. You think with their pick Tampere.
spk_2: 22:00
They've gotta go now. They took CD land. They need to go defense. They need to get, they need to get an edge rusher or they need to get a corner or they need to get a safety. Three only other. The only have the only other issue I could see is that if none of those guys were really if they got, if they follow their board and those guys all go, which could happen, I think I think you could. I think the issue, maybe for both the Eagles and the Cowboys. If you want one of those two top safeties, you might have to trade up to get him. I think they both will probably gone. Um, they could go offensive line if there's an offensive lineman there they like. But yeah,
spk_1: 22:39
I could see Trayvon digs falling to you guys. You grabbing him the corner bag. Bama.
spk_2: 22:47
Oh, yeah, yeah, he's one guy. The other guy they apparently like is Ah, Wind Field the safety out of Minnesota, too, who will always kind of mocked in the second round. But now things kind of up in the air because you know he's probably the third or fourth best safety on the board and not a single safety has been taken. I think
spk_1: 23:09
what it comes down to with all these pics is it's so hard to gauge what guy it has in him toe one of work really hard to be the best at bay. But I guess you guys are so talented that it all comes down to almost it all comes down. Tawanna. You know,
spk_2: 23:28
I think you now that way there's no sports toe watch and they've been running. Have you been watching? Like the old drafts? They've been running,
spk_1: 23:35
right? Yeah,
spk_2: 23:36
And it's funny because, like every time somebody gets drafted, everybody's got this great highlight reel. Everybody gushes about the guy. Oh, he's great. He's this. He's that and then you realize mean for some of these guys, they show the 2017 draft a couple days ago and first round guys, I mean, the bus factor was probably 50% right? Think that graph. Three years ago, there were guys that we're getting drafted in the first round and you were like, Who's that guy? Is he in the NFL more? And you're right. You know some of these guys that once they get drafted there like I made it and they know I don't think they realized how much you know, the guys who really become, you know, more than just average starters of the guys that, like now they really start the work once they get to the NFL. And that's and now, in this day and age where you really can't have these guys in for in depth interviews, they're doing, you know, I guess they're doing assume interviews like a How would you like to be a an eagle or a cowboy? You know, I'm real excited.
spk_1: 24:37
One thing the TCU coach was on a camera and John Ritchie show this afternoon, and you know, a J. Linz college coach. So one thing that he had that scared the hell out of me was, you know, when he's into it, he's really good.
spk_2: 24:58
Just go money splinters when he gives a shit man and he play.
spk_1: 25:02
But But it comes down to that to that thing that I had had sent you guys that, you know, with burners that happens a lot. D Jacks takes plays off all the hot.
spk_0: 25:13
Yeah, but it serves to they might take another receiver. I mean, they're probably if I had to guess. I would think they're not done in this draft because there's a lot
spk_2: 25:24
of other receiver, though in the second round I
spk_0: 25:27
don't mean back to back. I'm just saying, Don't be surprised if third or fourth round if somebody was there.
spk_1: 25:32
No, Josh, I think. I think depending on who's on the board, they could take another one with a second. I think of tea. Higgins is there. They absolutely take him
spk_0: 25:42
about my boyfriend. 10 steak a j handler. Another.
spk_1: 25:46
If handlers there, I think they would absolutely take him that it
spk_2: 25:50
is a small to those.
spk_0: 25:51
He's really small, but super fast. Super, super, super fast catch. Just like the show
spk_2: 25:59
I care small,
spk_1: 26:01
high care guy from Penn State.
spk_0: 26:05
All right, you One thing is certain. You can't have enough, um, high character guys from Penn State. I can attest for that. Um, Rich, we're gonna take a quick break here when we come back.
